Foreign citizens are generally required to obtain a visa in order to enter the country. The main types of visas offered by the U.S. Government are nonimmigrant visas, for a temporary stay in the U.S., and immigrant visas, for a permanent stay in the U.S.
At Signe Law, LLC, we provide legal representation for individuals, families, and businesses with their applications to U.S Citizenship and Immigration and Services (USCIS) and their affiliated offices.
U.S. Citizenship and Naturalization
Citizenship is the ultimate goal for many immigrants in the United States and there are Four paths to become a United States citizen:
- Through birth in the U.S.
- Through acquisition: If born in another country to a parent or parents who are U.S. citizens
- Through Naturalization: If you have been a Green-Card holder for at least five years and meet other eligibility. However, there are exceptions wherein you may be eligible to apply sooner than five years.
- Through derivation of citizenship: If prior to your eighteenth birthday you become a Green-Card holder and your parent(s) naturalize as U.S. citizens
Being an American offers many benefits such as applying for a green card for your relative, getting one of the most powerful passports in the world, transferring citizenship to minor children under certain circumstances, vote in any U.S. election, run for elected office, obtain federal benefits, apply for federal jobs, or serving on a jury.
Filing a naturalization application is complex, fact specific and could initiate removal proceedings against you. Arrange a consultation today with the Signe Law to discuss your case and eligibility.
